This is the thread which tells the story of how Barbossa lead the mutiny against Jack ten years before the first movie. Barbossa and crew are not cursed yet - they become cursed after marooning Jack and then they find the Chest of Cortez.
Night. The moon glimmered down weakly onto the sea's mirror-bright surface, the silver-lined waves lapping gently anaginst the hull of the Black Pearl as it sailed dreamlike across the ocean. Inside the great ship, in the First Mate's cabin, stood Barbossa. He paced across his room, by the high, arched windows, the candles and the bucket of apples he kept stashed beside his desk. His mind was whirring with plots and schemes; Captain Jack Sparrow. The witty captain. Barbossa curled his lip in contempt for Jack's un-dignified nature, his throw-away attitude to the world. Barbossa knew he would be a better captain. He could lead the Pearl to riches, to fame. But Sparrow, he felt, was going no-where. Barbossa had been secretly talking to the crew (separately, to arouse no suspicion) and subtly had been planting seeds of doubt in their minds of their Captain's leadership. He had said, in code, that he could offer the crew this and more.... and now the crew were now nicely mutinous, and Barbossa knew that his time would come soon...
He stopped pacing and looked back out of the high windows, out at the sea once again. He smiled slightly despite himself, and silently congratulated himself for his deeds then he strode to the door of his cabin and walked out into the fresh, salty air, his face and attire awash in silvery moonlight. He breathed in the smell of the sea and the unmistakable scent of mutiny on the air made him smirk once again as he walked over the side of the ship and stood there, just looking. He often did this; it was his way of relaxing, and he enjoyed just looking out over the open sea and feeling the joy of freedom - the joy of being a pirate. He must have looked impressive, framed in a slight silhouette, the moonlight gleaming off his elaborate long coat and his flambouyant hat as he stood there. Suddenly he heard the sound of footsteps on deck - he was obviously not alone now. He did not look around however, and waited for the man to make himslef known...

Jack Sparrow walked up behind his first mate He had a bottle of rum in his right hand. His dread locked dark brown hair and a goatee beard unseen by the dark of the night. He spoke quickly. "Barbossa, what are you doing out here? Your suppose to be plotting our course for Isla de Muerta. We have the fastest ship in all of the seven ships and you delay. Hmph. As long as we have rum, you delay all you want mate." He then turned and sluggishly started to walk back to his cabin.
| "Me, I'm dishonest. And a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly, it's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly stupid." |

Barbossa turned to face Jack, a superiorly raised eyebrow directed at Jack as he spoke. Barbossa answered, with a hint of sarcasm "Why Jack, what a pleasent surprise. The Isla de Muerta is an island that can only be found by those who already know where it is" he gave a slight grin "We need to find someone who already knows where it is before we can plot a course, so I suggest we go to Tortuga... And we can pick up some rum while we're there..." he looked at Jack quizically waiting for an answer, his lip curled in a small smile, knowing that would persuade the Captain.
